Malawi’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation has highlighted a major gap in household hygiene, reporting that only 12 percent of households have handwashing facilities.

Limited access to these facilities can make it harder for families to maintain proper hygiene and prevent infections.

The report highlights the importance of access to clean water, soap and sanitation facilities, alongside public education on handwashing.

Why it matters: Good hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
