Malawi’s national beach soccer team has qualified for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Seychelles 10–1 in the second leg of their qualifying tie at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima.
The result secured a 16–3 aggregate victory, following Malawi’s 6–2 win in the first leg in Seychelles.
Head coach Willy Kumilambe described the result as a major source of motivation ahead of the continental tournament. He also called for continued training camps and international friendly matches to keep the team competitive.
FAM president Fleetwood Haiya praised the players and pledged support for preparations, including opportunities for international friendlies.
The tournament was originally scheduled for November 2026 in Senegal, although the Football Association of Malawi report noted that its dates had been rescheduled.
Why it matters: Qualification provides an opportunity for Malawi to strengthen its position in African beach soccer and showcase another branch of the country’s football talent.
