Malawi’s women’s national football team, the Scorchers, delivered a commanding performance against Zimbabwe, winning the second leg of their Olympic qualifiers 7–0 to secure a 9–0 aggregate victory.

The Scorchers entered the match with a 2–0 advantage from the first leg at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, but they went on to demonstrate their attacking strength with another dominant display at the National Sports Stadium in Zimbabwe.

Temwa Chawinga led the scoring with a hat-trick, while captain Tabitha Chawinga, Chisomo Banda, Asimenye Simwaka and Sarah Mulimbika also found the net.

Head coach Lovemore Fazili praised the team’s performance, describing the result as evidence of progress following Malawi’s historic campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The victory strengthened the Scorchers’ Olympic qualification campaign and underlined the team’s growing confidence on the continental stage.

Why it matters: The result gives Malawi’s women’s football team momentum as it pursues a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
