Deputy Minister of Education Francis Folley has called for an education system that gives students practical experience alongside classroom knowledge.

During a visit to the Malawi University of Science and Technology, Folley assessed construction projects under the World Bank-funded Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Project and the government’s Public Sector Investment Programme.

The projects are intended to strengthen institutions’ capacity to provide practical training and develop skills that employers need.

MUST Vice Chancellor Mwapatsa Mipando said improved facilities would allow students to gain more hands-on experience on campus instead of travelling elsewhere for some practical training.

Why it matters: Well-equipped laboratories and practical learning facilities can help graduates develop the technical skills needed in engineering, manufacturing, ICT and other industries.
