Catholic women in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe have been encouraged to take a more active role in evangelisation, family life and the development of their communities.

The call was made by Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa during the official opening of the Archdiocesan Catholic Women Association’s Annual General Meeting at St Peter’s Girls Secondary School in Dowa Deanery.

The bishop encouraged women to deepen their prayer lives and help pass on Christian values to children and young people. He drew a comparison with the example of the Virgin Mary, presenting women as potential sources of hope and spiritual guidance.

The message highlights the role of women’s associations in supporting parish activities, nurturing faith within families and strengthening community participation.

Why it matters: Women’s involvement in Church leadership and community programmes can strengthen pastoral activities and help religious institutions reach more families and young people.
