Malawi’s Parliament is scheduled to reconvene on 9 November for a five-week sitting to review government spending and implementation of the 2026/27 National Budget.

Speaker Sameer Suleman announced that the Mid-Year Budget Review Meeting would run until 11 December in Lilongwe.

Members of Parliament are expected to scrutinise revenue collection, government expenditure, borrowing and progress on public programmes covering areas such as agriculture, healthcare, education and infrastructure.

The review will provide an opportunity for lawmakers to question ministers about spending commitments and assess whether public resources are being used effectively.

The sitting comes amid concerns about high living costs, foreign-exchange shortages and pressure on essential public services.

Why it matters: Parliament’s budget review helps determine whether government spending is delivering the services and development projects citizens were promised.
